Dog Allergies and Allergens - Do you have a dog allergy?
Discover how to fight dog allergens
Do you have an allergy to animals, especially dogs? If you're a real dog lover, then no problem! Although there's no such thing as the hypo-allergenic dog ( one that will not result in a dog allergy and allergic reactions ) there are some breeds of dog which produce very little amounts of allergens which start the conditions. By the way, a 'must read' for all asthma sufferers is a book by Paresh Jivanji who has helped many sufferers. There are some very impressive testimonials on his website here.
Allergens defined for you.
Allergens are particles found all around you which your body cannot deal with. Usually what occurs is that we may have been exposed to some allergens before and the immune system had a reaction, producing antibodies to fight-off the small particles.
Usually, the allergens are not harmful at all, but your immune system incorrectly identifies them as alien and possibly dangerous. So in the future, when you encounter these allergens, your immune system reacts by bulk producing antibodies to counter these allergens. So as that happens, we experience the symptoms of allergies, such as wheezing, asthma, and sometimes deadly anaphylaxis.
Normal allergens that cause dog allergy are dander, which is like shedding skin cells, saliva, and urine. You may notice that fur is not mentioned. This is due to the fact fur particlles are not allergens by themselves, but they do attract dander and saliva at the same time the pet is grooming.
In around 5 to 30 minutes of contact with these allergens, the symptoms of pet allergy can appear. But there are instances when the symptoms can appear much later in a type of delayed reaction.
Anyway, below are a few steps you can try to cut down dog allergens in your home and, in that event, cut down your dog allergies also:
Tip 1: No more dogs on the bed.
Let's face it, this is actually a very minute price to pay. Think about painfull eyes, , blocked nose, finding it hard to breathe, sore rashes, swelling, and you’ll agree that not letting our dog in our bed is not that . After all, when you suffer from dog allergies but still persist on having a dog, we have to understand that there are a couple things that you must give up to achieve a balance between the health and your love for the dog.
